Park Ridge TV Journalist: A DNA Test Changed My Life Park Ridge TV Journalist: A DNA Test Changed My Life
Park Ridge TV Journalist: A DNA Test Changed My Life PARK RIDGE, N.J. — Bill Griffeth of Park Ridge, co-anchor of CNBC’s “Closing Bell,” shares a startling family story in his new book, "The Stranger in My Genes."  After taking two DNA tests four years ago, he learned the dad he loved — Charles Griffeth — was not his biological father. That meant his colonial New England Protestant ancestors, chronicled in his third book, “By Faith Alone,” weren’t really his family. That meant his mother had a secret life. Turns out, his real ancestors lived in the South and fought for the Confederacy. They were slaveowners. “How different does t…

Ridgewood Kids Sport Blue Hair Extensions For Cancer Campaign Ridgewood Kids Sport Blue Hair Extensions For Cancer Campaign
Ridgewood Kids Sport Blue Hair Extensions For Cancer Campaign RIDGEWOOD, N.J. — Groups of tweens and teens — and some adults — showed up smiling at Industrie Hair Gurus in Ridgewood Tuesday: they all wanted a $10 blue hair extension. The fundraiser benefited International Childhood Cancer Awareness Day. The village has a special feeling for the cause because of the late Michael Feeney, one of its native sons who succumbed to Ewing’s Sarcoma in November 2013. The life-loving and effervescent Michael — popular with his peers, the police and everyone around town — was only 10. Whatever he did, he used to say he was having his “best day ever.” People c…

Bergen Community College Adds Airplane To Aviation Fleet Bergen Community College Adds Airplane To Aviation Fleet
Bergen Community College Adds Airplane To Aviation Fleet PARAMUS, N.J. – From flight simulators to drones and high-altitude balloons, in recent years, Bergen Community College in Paramus has distinguished itself as a hub for aviation-related study. And now, thanks to donor Woody Saland, its fleet includes an airplane. Saland personally constructed the “Onex,” a 16-foot, single-seat plane, from a kit produced by Sonex Aircraft. Completion took 1,500 hours over two years.  But, after 40 hours of flight time, Saland spent the last year searching for a nonprofit organization that could benefit from his handiwork. Bergen’s focus on aviation education…

Allendale Pizza Maker Learned His Craft In Italy ALLENDALE, N.J. — Ed Duli of Elmwood Park, owner of Toscana Pizza in Allendale, has made pies in exciting places. For instance, La Griglia in Rimini, Italy on the Adriatic Sea. And La Vecchia Romagna, also in Rimini – the town where Dulli's Albanian family moved when he was a boy. “Pizzerias are fun to me,” said Duli, 42, who opened Toscana last June. “Pizza is easy to make and it’s a pleasure to see people enjoying it.” Toscana Pizza, named for a region in northern Italy west of Rimini, is known for its thin crust pies (though it makes Sicilian ones, too). Duli especially enjoys worki…
