SADDLE RIVER, N.J. – Saddle River is the easy answer to high-end housing in Bergen County. With 2-acre zoning it's traditionally the center of luxury and excess, and the ultimate in peace and quiet.
A quick search shows 18 homes for sale in Saddle River for more than $3 million. Narrow that down a little, and seven of those are $5 million or more.
But the price behemoth makes even those figures look small. The most expensive house for sale in the Northern Highlands region is at 105 Chestnut Ridge Road in Saddle River, and is listed at $14.9 million.
The closest homes in price are 1 Alford Drive for $12 million, and 19 N. Church Rd. at $7,400,000.
The most expensive home is called Versaille Mansion. Built of stone, it has seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, and 25,000 square feet of living space.
The house sits on 4.5 landscaped, gated acres, and is “extremely private.” It was built in 2002 and last sold in 2003 for $2,500,000.
And in case you’re wondering what your monthly mortgage payment will be, Zillow.com estimates that figure at $53,163 a month. That’s saying something, because the median yearly income across the country is $50,500.
The home features luxury materials throughout: stone, slate, rare woods and marble, green technology and radiant heat.
Outstanding features include a greenhouse, hot tub spa, indoor pool, fireplaces, barbecue, spacious patios surrounding the home, a tennis court, wet bar, sauna and security system.
But don’t expect sewers. Spending-shy Saddle River has yet to implement modern sewage treatment, so even this 25,000 square foot house relies on a septic system.
