Lt. John Gaffney, 49, filed a suit against the borough last year that claimed he was passed over because of politics.

The suit alleges that Gaffney was denied a promotion because he attended a party hosted by 'political rivals' of Mayor Sam Raia and the Borough Council, according to NorthJersey.com.

Both sides are meeting with mediators to resolve the issue.
