The Gateway Court resident called Waldwick police after hearing his garage door suddenly open and finding three burglars rummaging through two unlocked vehicles early Tuesday morning, Lt. Thomas Dowling said.

They alerted colleagues in surrounding towns to a speeding vehicle fleeing on Crescent Avenue, he said.

Saddle River police tried to stop the car on Franklin Turnpike, but the driver gunned it and took off – eventually crashing onto the front lawn of a Paramus home, Dowling said.

All three occupants bailed out, one of whom fled, he said.

Arrested were Hasani John, 18, of the Bronx and a 16-year-old boy.

John, the driver, was charged with burglary, theft, obstruction and eluding, Dowling said. He was taken to the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.

The younger teen was taken to the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center in Teterboro.

Police, who discovered other unlocked vehicles entered in the area, were continuing an investigation.

Dowlling thanked Saddle River and Paramus police, along with other agencies involved in investigating and capturing the pair.
