The Joan Angela D’Alessandro Memorial Foundation will present the Passaic Teen Center with a check for $1,500 and a plaque in memory of Joan at 4 p.m. Thursday.
The Women’s Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus also will present 30 shower baskets, 2 games baskets and 5 additional gift baskets to the shelter’s youth.
The Women’s Club assembled the baskets to support the foundation’s goal of assisting the Passaic Teen Center and Youth Haven after Joan’s mother, Rosemarie, spoke to organizers about the foundation’s work.
Both shelters are part of The Father English Center and provide residential and crisis counseling services for runaway, homeless and abused youth, ages 11 to 17.
The donation will cover season passes to Great Adventure for the youngsters.
This will mark the ninth year in which the Foundation has provided vacations or fun excursions for the youth of the Hope Avenue.
The Foundation was established in memory of Joan Angela D’Alessandro, a 7-year-old Brownie Scout who was assaulted and murdered by her neighbor.
The goals of the non-profit foundation include promoting child safety and protection, while advancing victims’ rights and helping abused, homeless and neglected youth.
This year’s donation was raised at the Foundation’s 4th annual yard sale, held at the D’Alessandro’s Hillsdale home in May.
