SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- Saddle River resident Araxie (Mavelian) Boyadjian died on Sunday, Jan. 3. She was 83.
Born in Syria to Nerces and Aznive Mavelian, Boyadjian immigrated to the United States fom Lebanon, with her husband and four children.
She acquired her master-seamstress training. After supporting her family in various businesses, Boyadjian returned to her profession as a master seamstress at B'Altman's and then at Lord & Taylor for over 30 years.
Boyadjian received Mother of the Year award by the Armenian Ourfa Organization, and she served at the Armenian Relief Society in various capacities, including a term as president.
She is survived by her children, Sossi Avrigian and her husband Melcom, Jack Boyajian and his wife Linda, and Helen Boyadjian; daughter-in-law Meline; and grandchildren Christina, Gregory, Diana and James Boyadjian, David, Armand, Jacqueline and Juliette Boyajian, and Meline and Georgette Avrigian.
Boyadjian was predeceased by her husband, Krikor Boyadjian; and a son, Bedros Boyadjian.
Visitation hours will be from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, at G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Home, 397 Union St., in Hackensack, with a family and liturgical presentation at 8 p.m. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9, at Sts. Vartanantz Armenian Apostolic Church, 461 Bergen Blvd., in Ridgefield. Burial will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus Road, in Paramus.
