Allendale Eats, DVlicious Finalist, Caters To Kids With Patience, Options

ALLENDALE, N.J. -- We get it. You like to eat. And you like to eat out. But dining with kids, especially young ones -- can sometimes get sticky -- in more ways than one. Kudos to the places that offer up pleasing menus for both adults and kids as well as surroundings that don’t feel like you’re dining at Mickey D’s.

Allendale Eats, Allendale

Why It's Kid Worthy: Owners Denise Kimball and Kyle Cauwenberghs, a mother/son duo just like kids. Kyle (and partner) have a 3-year-old and can commiserate with the parents who bring their kids to eat. "We want the parents and the kids to have a good experience," said Kimball.

That means training their wait staff to do "whatever it takes" to make the kids happy... coloring books and crayons, serving the kids first (if the parents say so), offering high chairs and a changing table in the bathroom. Most of all, being patient, which can also mean suddenly wrapping food to go if/when a meltdown occurs.

"Our place isn't so fancy that some milk on the floor or a flying chicken finger can't be scooped up," said Kimball. "We are like training wheels for a French restaurant."

The eatery, made famous in a "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" episode, is known for its extensive breakfast menu, homemade soup and oversized "sanguiches."
