SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- Saddle River Day School recently held a read-a-thon to benefit FOWA Rescue, based on the idea of third-grader Brooke Braen, of Wyckoff, and her peers.

Together they then challenged the second- and fourth-graders, and the students read for a total 32,645 minutes -- 544 hours.

The students raised $3,264.50 to donate to the rescue group. The money raised will help aid in the welfare, sheltering and placement of homeless animals.
