NEWTOWN, Conn. — Dozens of basketball players from across Bergen County, N.J., will be dribbling in Newtown, Conn., on Saturday to raise money for the town that lost 20 children and six adults in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in December 2012.

Three dollars will be donated for every 3-point shot at the fourth annual "Threes for Sandy Hook" tournament beginning at 9 a.m. at Newtown High School.

Participating New Jersey teams include:

  • -Ho-Ho-Kus 5th Grade Travel Team
  • Mahwah 7th Grade Travel Team
  • Allendale 8th Grade Travel Team
  • Saddle River Day School JV
  • Kinnelon 6th Grade Travel Team

Each of the five teams will face the respective Newtown team.

“It is absolutely the best event I have ever been involved with,” Saddle River Day School Athletic Director Danny Brown told Daily Voice.

“[Newtown officials] are so grateful that we reached out to them, and for the relationships that have been established over these past three years.”

Newtown and New Jersey's athletes and coaches have built and unbreakable bond since first teaming up after the shooting in 2012, Brown said.

Funds will help in providing basketball equipment for the new basketball courts at the New Sandy Hook School that will replace the elementary school building, the site of the former tragedy.

A second Three's Tournament is scheduled in February at Saddle River Day School.
