“He has been gracious enough to be able to come and spend the day. The kids have seen him on TV, so that will be exciting for them,” Principal Christine Gagliardo told Daily Voice.

Marshall will be conducting a pair of assemblies and bringing along his mobile weather studio to give interactive lessons on weather and forecasting.

Marshall’s participation is just one aspect of a full-day of  educational experiences focused on the theme of Earth Day. Students will learn about things like climate change, recycling and sustainability.

Each year, the school’s Education Day is focused on a specific theme to compliment the curriculum, Gagliardo said.

“We try to give them something that is different than their everyday experience, but that extends the learning that they are doing throughout the school year,” said Gagliardo.

“We designed this year’s Education Day to immerse the students in a range of green programming to expand their world view and understanding of issues that we are all tackling at home and in our community to improve the environment,” said PTA vice president and Education Day co-chair Michelle Wickwire.

The Education Days are funded with money raised by the PTA, Gagliardo said.

“This is only really possible because of their efforts. Within our school budget we just don’t typically have the funds to grant these kinds of experiences,” she said.
