ALLENDALE, N.J. -- With the appointment of its first permanent borough clerk in more than a year, Allendale has begun a process that will significantly change the structure of borough government, according to reports in The Town Journal and The Record.

Bergenfield Borough Clerk Anne Dodd was appointed full-time municipal clerk July 27, The Town Journal said . At the same time, the Mayor and Council announced they are separating out daily administrative functions from the clerk’s role and will hire a full-time administrator to manage the borough.

Dodd will earn $75,000 annually in Allendale, an increase of $6,500 over her old salary. Formerly the deputy clerk in Tenafly, she was Bergenfield clerk from January, 2014 and earned her RMC (registered municipal clerk) certificate while she worked there, according to The Record. Mayor Liz White said Allendale's municipal code stipulates the borough clerk acts as administrator, but the governing will be changing that by ordinance.
