Friends know I think the world of Amber, my former neighbor. She’s bright, sincere, caring, attentive — and also one of the most gorgeous women walking the planet.
And although she’s signed with a major modeling agency, she has also set up Inspired by Amber, a jewelry line she creates with her mom, and is writing a self-help guide for teenaged girls.
Amber came to New York City from her Pennsylvania hometown to work in fashion design, soon found herself modeling, then agreed to perform in a pro-Obama video for BarelyPolitical.com during the last presidential race.
It was more a goof than anything, said Amber, who danced around Manhattan, getting people to frolic with her, as she lip-synched the song. Six hours of taping and a few days of production later, “Crush on Obama” was ready.
The video, which premiered on June 13, 2007, started out slowly before exploding beyond anyone’s wildest dreams (at last count, it had passed 21.3 million views on YouTube). Next thing you knew, Amber was on news shows, talk shows — even “Saturday Night Live.” She’s also had her own online program and can still pack a room during guest appearances.
All thanks to:
The folks at BarelyPolitical have done other cool video work, some of it involving other props that are now being auctioned off along with Amber’s shirts, courtesy of Ted’s List.
The entire haul from the auction is going to U.N.I.C.E.F.
Visit tedslist.com/barelypolitical for info and to place bids.
But move fast: Bidding ends after the Grammy Awards Sunday night!
