MIDLAND PARK, N.J. -- Police officers from no fewer than 18 agencies converged in Midland Park to search for a former Long Island police officer who was wanted on warrants -- and believed suicidal and possibly armed -- following a domestic incident overnight, law enforcement officials told Daily Voice.

The search conducted by the Bergen County Rapid Deployment Force intensified around 8:30 a.m. Oct. 10 and forced the cancellation of several area events while authorities scoured a half-mile stretch of woods along the railroad tracks for more than seven hours.

"No one was really sure whether he had a gun," one law enforcement official said.

Daily Voice learned late this afternoon that the Suffolk County officer's attorney was in touch with authorities to arrange his surrender to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office soon after the search ended around 3 p.m.

The man went missing around 1 a.m., Midland Park Police Chief Michael Powderley confimed.

A drone was sent up with negative results, he said.

Earlier report from responders at the scene that a boy was missing were incorrect.

The RDF, which operates under the auspices of the Bergen County Police Chiefs Association, included officers from:

Fair Lawn

Emerson

Englewood
