Responding officers found 18-year-old Zachary Fischer "staggering in the middle" of East Saddle River Road at 7:40 a.m., Detective Lt. Edward Kane told Daily Voice.

Fischer told them he'd been driving to a local store to buy breakfast, Kane said.

The officers found him carrying Xanax and marijuana, the lieutenant said.

They also learned that he'd taken several prescription medications and a blank check after breaking into an aquaintance's home, he said.

Fischer was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

A judge ordered him held on $100,000 bail on charges of burglary, theft and drug possession counts, as well as with being under the influence of drugs and disorderly conduct.

Kane asked anyone who might have seen Fischer near their home or property call Upper Saddle River police: (201) 327-2700.
