Five ambulances were called to the Twins Plus Lounge for the victims, four of whom were taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and one who was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli announced tonight.
Police from South Hackensack and surrounding towns rushed to the South Main Street bar after getting word of the melee just before 1:45 a.m., Molinelli said.
The prosecutor said an investigation determined that a group of friends — Ernest Brodie, 19, of Harrison; Jesus Colon, 21, of Lyndhurst and 37-year-old Anthony Pate got into a fight inside the bar with three Garfield men: Benjamin Venegas, 27, Raphael Carrion Jr., 28, and 32-year-old Lukasz Dziewiatkowski.
It spilled outside, where Carrion was beaten in the head with a hammer and Pate was stabbed in the torso, he said.
Brodie then got into his car, parked near the bar and “intentionally drove into” Dziewiatkowski on Saddle River Avenue before he “turned [it] around, returned to South Main Street, accelerated and intentionally struck Venegas with the vehicle,” Molinelli said.
Dziewiatkowski sustained several broken bones and was released from HUMC after being treated, the prosecutor said.
Venegas remained in critical condition at the Hackensack hospital, he said.
Carrion was listed as critical there, as well, with multiple skull fractures, Molinelli said.
Pate, meanwhile, was taken to St. Joe’s, where he was reported in critical but stable condition, the prosecutor said.
Colon was released after being treated at HUMC for cut on his face and leg, he said.
Brodie ( top, right ) was being held on $500,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with attempted murder for intentionally hitting the two men, Molinelli said.
Colon ( top, middle ) is charged with aggravated assault on Carrion and simple assault on Dziewiatkowski. He was being held on $100,000 bail in the county lockup.
Dziewiatkowski ( top, right ) was released without bail, charged with assault and disorderly conduct.
Initial court appearances had yet to be set.
“The investigation is continuing at this time and charges are expected to be filed on the others that were involved,” Molinelli said.
