Story behind brawl that left three stabbed

ONLY ON CLIFFVIEW PILOT: A Fair Lawn juvenile’s boast of plans to have sex with a Garfield man’s girlfriend ignited a brawl that left three combatants with minor stab wounds, a convicted sex offender facing charges of stabbing them with a steak knife he claims wasn’t his, and 18 of those involved slapped with summonses or juvenile complaints.

Ten Garfield teens clashed with nearly a dozen from Fair Lawn on Saddle River Road after one of the Fair Lawn boys was “continually text messaging the girlfriend of one of the Garfield boys,” a source close to the incident told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

During the brawl, 21-year-old Louis Pizzi stabbed three people, police said. He is now being held on $100,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail.

“The boy from Fair Lawn told the [man] from Garfield that he was going to have sex with his girlfriend at his party [Friday] night,” the source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

Fair Lawn police identified the Garfield man as 19-year-old Christian J. Ward. They didn’t identify the juvenile because of his age.

Ward and six friends had just returned from a “Weird NJ” trip, the source said. Most were “normal, decent, in college,” except for Pizzi.

The two groups met around 2:20 a.m. outside the juvenile’s Fair Lawn house, where, police said, Pizzi stabbed three of the combatants.

Maor Azoulay, 18, of New York City and Arsen Musalaev, 20 and Eduard Ostrovsky, 18, both of Fair Lawn, were all treated at Hackensack University Medical Center before being released, Fair Lawn police said.

Ostrovsky was lucky, they said: The blade just missed his carotid artery.

Fair Lawn police charged the 6-foot-tall, multi-tattooed Pizzi with aggravated assault, weapons possession and rioting. Ward and 17 others are charged with rioting.

“The story is morphing into some kind of ‘gang’ confrontation, which it did not start out to be,” the source said.
