Ramsey police chief: Faulty dishwasher likely cause of fire that killed woman, 47

UPDATE: A faulty dishwasher appears to be the cause of a fire that claimed the life of a 47-year-old Ramsey woman, Police Chief Bryan Gurney said this afternoon.

The Rockland County Medical Examiner tomorrow will conduct an autopsy on Sallie Brady, whose body was brought to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern after emergency workers found her on a couch in her living room before dawn this morning.

“At this time, there does not appear to be any criminal culpability involved,” said Gurney ( above ), confirming an earlier CLIFFVIEW PILOT report that neither the arson nor her death appeared suspicious.

Brady apparently was already dead when she was found — somewhat ashen, showing signs of rigor mortis — possibly because the blaze had been smoldering last night before eventually spreading through the two-story condominium, a law enforcement source told CLIFFVIEW PILOT earlier today.

Gurney said he couldn’t address that.

However, the chief said that firefighters “were able to make entry in the house and found a lone female victim on a couch in the living room” of the Talina Court home shortly after the 5:47 a.m. fire report came in.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of criminal Identification collected evidence while members of Molinelli’s Arson Unit investigated.

Among those responding to the blaze were emergency workers from Ramsey, Mahwah. Allendale and Wyckoff.
