YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A Paramus police officer sustained a compound left leg fracture after being struck while directing traffic at Paramus Road and Glen Avenue  this morning.

Officer Kurtis Massey was hit by a blue Honda Accord driven by an 85-year-old Waldwick woman around 10:35 a.m. while directing a detour from Ridgewood to Glen avenues while new utility poles were being installed.

Massey, 27, was conscious and alert, although in some pain, when placed into a Paramus Ambulance Corps rig. Paramedics from The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood assisted.

He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where, Paramus Police Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg said: “He is in good condition.”

Ehrenberg went to the hospital after spending some time at the scene ( below, left ), directing the accident investigation.

Paramus Road was shut down to traffic during the investigation.

The 2005 Accord, which was making a left turn from Glen Avenue onto Paramus Road southbound when Massey was hit, was removed by flatbed truck.

The elderly motorist, meanwhile, was issued a summons for careless driving.
