The victim was crossing DeMercurio Drive around 6:40 a.m. when he was struck by the truck as it turned from West Orchard Street, Police Chief George Scherb told Daily Voice.

The victim struck his head on the east side of the curb and was “lapsing in and out of consciousness” when police arrived, Scherb said.

The Allendale Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to Hackensack University Medical Center, the chief said.

“The investigation is ongoing and will determine whether any complaints will be issued against the driver, a 50 year-old Allendale man,” Scherb said.

NOTE: A previous version of the story said the Allendale driver was from Franklin Lakes.
