ALLENDALE, N.J. — Allendale police got a clean-shaven start to December after raising $1,300 during the No-Shave November fundraiser to fight cancer and raise awareness.

"Overall, I’d say this was a great experience for us," Police Chief George Scherb told Daily Voice. "We had the opportunity to have a little fun with each other over how our beards came in and do something good at the same time."

The highest donation of $200 came from Tyco Animal Services. The Allendale Woman's Club, the Cinelli Family, Ted and Karen Clark and Sharysse Frasco each gave $100.

"Having the beards also started many conversations with people in the community -- which was the point," the chief said. "It helped us to get the word out.

"And we connected with people a bit."
