Allendale Police: Nodded-Out NY Driver Had 31 Heroin Bags, Two Dozen Used

ALLENDALE, N.J. – An alert citizen led Allendale police to a suspicious vehicle in a supermarket parking lot – and the arrest of its nodded-out driver on heroin charges, authorities said.

Officers Vincent Rizzo and Dan Rosendahl found Elijah Grover of Norwich, NY asleep in the gray Ford Taurus in the north end of the Acme parking lot early Thursday, Police Chief George Scherb said Monday.

They also saw several wax folds of heroin on the passenger seat, he said.

The officers knocked on the window, waking Grover, and had him step out of the car, the chief said.

They arrested him after finding found seven full folds of heroin, 24 empty folds, syringes and open beer cans in the Taurus, he said.

Grover was charged with drug possession, as well as with having an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle.

He posted $250 of $2,500 bail and was released pending a court hearing.
