Kevin Jongsma, who was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with injuries that didn’t appear life-threatening, also was issued several other motor vehicle violations, Allendale Police Chief George “Chip” Scherb told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

Witnesses told CLIFFVIEW PILOT the vehicle went up West Allendale Avenue up onto the fenced-in right of way before it sideswiped a New Jersey Transit train around 5 a.m.

The train dragged the car a bit and then flipped it into the commuter parking lot, they said.

NJ Transit’s Courtney Carroll said the empty train was being transferred to Suffern when the crash occurred.

Two eastbound commuter trains were delayed before all traffic was resumed just before 6 a.m., she said.
