ANOTHER CVP SCOOP: They weren’t your average supermarket shoplifters, said Allendale police who today charged a borough couple with 15 separate thefts — mostly of alcohol — totaling $3,345 worth of merchandise.
Detectives investigating a six-week, late-night string of thefts that began March 4 conferred with loss prevention officers at the store and identified Michael Basile, 26, and 21-year-old Laura Probst as suspects, Police Chief George Scherb told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.
Investigators set up surveillance and nabbed the pair in the act overnight today, Scherb said.
Both were also carrying drug paraphernalia, he said.
Scherb’s officers charged Basile with 15 shoplifting offenses, along with one count of conspiracy and another of drug paraphernalia possession.
Probst was charged with 11 shoplifting counts and a paraphernalia possession offense.
They were being held on $21,000 bail each in the Bergen County Jail.
