Norma Parsells Of Allendale

ALLENDALE, N.J. -- Norma Margaret Parsells (nee Finnerty), of Allendale, died Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

She was was predeceased by her parents, James J. and Margaret (nee Quinn) Finnerty; and brother, James Finnerty, who served in the Vietnam War.

She was the loving wife of George H. Jr. for 56 years; mother of George H. Parsells III of Bernardsville and Katherine L. Bizub and her husband, Toby of Wyckoff; grandmother of Christina Mary and George H. Parsells IV, Thomas Joseph III, John Finnerty and Margaret Anne Bizub; sister-in-law of Joyce Sullivan and her husband, William; and aunt of William, Robert, Christopher Sullivan, Sandra Barnes and James, Michael, Teresa and Sean Finnerty.

She was born in New York City amd graduated from St. Nicholas of Tolentine Grammar School and High School. After high school, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y. After college, she was employed by The National Industrial Conference Board, an economic research organization.

She married during that time and moved to Schenectady, N.Y. After almost three years, they moved to New Jersey, where she and her husband, George, started GHP Insurance Center in Ramsey. She worked there until their retirement in 2004.

Parsells was a member of Hackensack Golf Club, Manchester (Vt.) Golf Club and The Strand Golf Club of Naples, Fla. During her spare time, she was very active in tennis, golf, bridge and, throughout the years, made many precious friends from those clubs with very fond memories. She especially enjoyed watching her children and grandchildren play their sports. Most of all, she loved to travel throughout Europe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth’s RC Church, 700 Wyckoff Ave., Wyckoff. Entombment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.

Visitation is from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff.
