Michael Sokoly, 86, Of Midland Park

MIDLAND PARK, N.J. -- Michael Sokoly, of Midland Park, died on Tuesday, Nov. 29. He was 86.

Born in Clymer, Penn., he lived in Wyckoff from 1942 to 1973 then moved to Midland Park. He started his career with Algera Electric and formed his own business in 1966 before retiring in 2013. He was a member of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Fair Lawn where he served as an elder for many years. In 1984 he joined Faith Community Christian Reformed Church in Wyckoff where he also served as an elder and sang in the men’s chorus. He loved woodworking making many pieces of furniture for the family over the years.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; his sons, Michael Jr. and his wife Patricia, Kurt and his wife Judy and Sean; four grandchildren; his brother, Robert.

Visiting hours will be Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 11-11:45 a.m. at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff. There will be a funeral service at 11:45 a.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
