WALDWICK, N.J. -- Mary Ann Gordon (nee Furey), 83, of Waldwick, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 12, 2016 after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
Born July 19, 1932, in Astoria, Queens, she was the eldest daughter of Vincent and Mary (Hiegel) Furey. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Luke’s Church for more than 60 years and also a proud resident of Waldwick, where she served the borough for many years as its tax assessor.
She loved her strong Irish and French roots and was able to visit both countries frequently with the love of her life, Jim, who predeceased her in 2011. She loved to travel but especially cherished her cottage in Cape Cod, where she, Jim, and her family shared many good times.
A graduate of St. Cecilia’s in Englewood, she remained close with many of her high school friends, especially her dearest friend, Carole Jacomo Seyffer.
Mary Ann is survived by her children Maureen (Roy) Klaproth, Lorraine (Bruce) Wiener, James (Anne) Gordon and Michael (Peggy) Gordon; her 12 grandchildren, Meghan (Billy) Ferrara, Jesse (Elizabeth) Klaproth, Brendan Klaproth, Daniel Klaproth, Michele Wiener, Nicholas Wiener, Amy Wiener, Christine Gordon, Patrick Gordon, Genevieve Gordon, Elisabeth Gordon and Norah Gordon; two great-grandchildren, Kieran and Lochlan Ferrara; two sisters, Caroline (Bob) Kosowicz, and Kathleen Coolong; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Feeney’s Funeral Home, 232 Franklin Ave, Ridgewood. A Mass celebrating her life will be conducted at noon Friday at St. Luke’s Church.
