UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- James Henry Morriss, a resident of Mahwah and formerly of Upper Saddle River, died Thursday, May 5. He was 83.
Born in Bogota, Colombua in 1932, he was the first of six children of Elena Melo and Leslie Morriss.
He graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from Loughborough University, Leicestershire, United Kingdom. He worked at Standard Tool and Manufacturing Co. in Lyndhurst for more than 25 years. Once retired along with his wife Alix, they opened a Travel Agency in Waldwick. This gave them the joy of business ownership along with the opportunity of extensive travel, which became their passion.
He is survived by his wife, Alix; his children, James L. Morriss of Peekskill, N.Y., and wife Maria, Ron Morriss of Allendale and wife Belinda, Patricia Martini of Ho-Ho Hus and husband Robert; and six grandchildren, Chris, Alec, Katy, Julia, Ruby and Jennifer.
He was predeceased by his son, Mark William Morriss.
The wake will be from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. There will be a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the Guardian Angel Church in Allendale.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the following organizations: The Lustgarten Foundation working to advance the scientific and medical research related to the diagnosis, treatment and cure of pancreatic cancer. Villa Marie Claire (Residential Hospice) Holy Name Medical Center.
