MIDLAND PARK, N.J. – Gertrude W. Borst (Vermaas), of Midland Park, died Wednesday, Jan. 13. She was 80.

Born in Prospect Park, she lived in Midland Park for over 60 years. Prior to her retirement, she worked in the mortgage department at Prospect Park National Bank and was also a bookkeeper for Borst Landscape and the Vermass Co.

A member of Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, she was an organist for 40 years and served as a deaconess and member of the Ruth Circle. She was also a member of the N.J. Organist Guild.

She was the wife of John H. Borst Sr. for 60 years; mother of John Borst Jr. and his wife, Kathleen, of Wyckoff; Robert Borst and his wife, Julie, of Allendale; and Mark Borst and his wife, Heather, of Wyckoff; grandmother of six; sister of Jane de Waal Malefyt and her late husband, Herman, of Ramsey; Garret Vermaas and his wife, Carolyn, of Wyckoff; and William Vermaas and his wife, Joyce, of Michigan.

The family will receive family and friends Friday, Jan. 15, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Vander Plaat-Vermeulen Memorial Home, 530 High Mountain Road, Franklin Lakes. Funeral services will take place Saturday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. at Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, 183 Godwin Ave., Midland Park. Interment will take place at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to Eastern Christian Children’s Retreat, 700 Mountain Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481; or the Eastern Christian School Association, 50 Oakwood Ave., North Haledon, NJ 07508.
