Eileen A. (Murphy) Etna, 87, Waldwick Resident

WALDWICK, N.J. -- Eileen A. (Murphy) Etna, of Waldwick, died on Thursday, Jan 26. She was 87.

She was born in Manhattan to Daniel and Eileen McMahon Murphy. Her mother died in childbirth, she was raised in the Bronx by the Donahue family. She moved to New Jersey while attending college. 

Etna graduated from William Patterson College, and she taught first grade in the Hillsdale Public School system for many years. She retired in 1991. She was a longtime resident of Montvale. 

She is survived by her sons, Daniel Etna of Ridgewood and Paul Etna of Montvale; twin grandsons Stephen and Daniel; daughter-in-law Maura Fleming; brother-in-law David Ensenat; and many cousins in Ireland. 

Etna was preceded by her husband, Nello Etna.

Visitation will be from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at the Robert Spearing Funeral Home, 155 Kinderkamack Rd., in Park Ridge. The funeral service will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday at St. Elizabeth's Church, 169 Fairmount Rd., in Ridgewood. Interment will be in Christ the King Cemetery, in Franklin Lakes.
