Donated Organs Of Pascack Valley High School Student Help Others Live

HILLSDALE, N.J. -- "This is Jack's heart beating in Jack's body," wrote the mother of a 17-year-old Pascack Valley High School senior who committed suicide last Sunday. "This heart, Jack's heart, is now beating in a 68-year-old man.

"His left lung is now helping a 56-year-old man breathe," Jennifer Gonzales wrote in a Facebook video post about the organs donated by her son, Jack Gonzales Farrell. "His left kidney and pancreas are functioning in a 36-year-old male. His right kidney is in a 60-year-old woman.

"And his liver has gone to a 1-year-old girl.

"Jack lives on...."

Jack "will always be remembered for his loving, outgoing personality, his quick wit and infectious sense of humor," his obituary says.

Visiting hours are from 2-7 p.m.Sunday, with a service to follow at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Road, Westwood.

A committal service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at George Washington Memorial Park.

Besides his mother, who works at Pascack Hills High School, Jack is survived by his father, retired Rutherford police officer Henry Farrell; his brother, Steve; his sister, Kelsey; and his beloved dog, Martha, and cats, Leo and Nova.

He is also survived by his grandmothers, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends "who loved him dearly."

Donations may be made in Jack's name in lieu of flowers to The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
