UPPER SADDLE RIVER, N.J. -- Barbara H. Nickau, 69, of Upper Saddle River, died Monday, May 23, 2016.
Born in Ridgewood, Nickau lived there before moving to Upper Saddle River 41 years ago.
She was very involved with the fostering of dogs, housing more than 500 the past 10 years. She enjoyed taking the dogs to her summer cabin in White Lake, N.Y., where all the neighbors would enjoy playing with the dogs. Nickau was very animal friendly with not only dogs but also ducks.
She also enjoyed adding antique finishings to her house, which was built in 1828 and is on the Upper Saddle River Historic Registry.
She is survived by her loving husband William “Bucky” Nickau.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. Tuesday at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave. Wyckoff.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to the Guiding Eyes for the Build, 611 Granite Springs Road, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598.
