Allen H. Wahlberg, 83, Of Ho-Ho-Kus

HO-HO-KUS, N.J. -- Allen H. Wahlberg, a resident of Ho-Ho-Kus, died Thursday, May 12. He was 83.

Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Wahlberg grew up in Manhattan where he attended Brooklyn Technical High School. He went on to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he graduated in 1956. Soon after, Allen served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers from 1957-1959, highlighted by a year in Iran as a Topographical Survey Party Chief. His career was with Turner Construction Corporation.

He was active in the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus, where he lived most of his adult life. He served on the Planning Board, the Zoning Board of Adjustment, and as a Council Member and Council President. He also served as Police Commissioner and Deputy Fire Commissioner. He was also active in the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus where he served on the Consistory and sang in the choir.

He is preceded by his parents, Allan and Oda, and Barbara his wife of 51 years. He is survived by his daughter Susan and her husband Scott, their children Emily and Julia; his son Andrew and his wife Jill, and their children Ryan and Kyle.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 18 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home, 306 East Ridgewood Ave., Ridgewood. A memorial service will take place on Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus.

Interment will take place later that afternoon at the South Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 138 W. Church St., Bergenfield. Memorial service will be Thursday, May 19, 11 a.m. at the Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus, 400 Warren Ave., Ho-Ho-Kus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus.
