He served as a cook in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked many years as a controller. Upon retirement, he volunteered for the Center for Food Action. He was most proud of his family and believed in his country and work ethic.
He is predeceased by his wife, Olga L.
He is survived by his children, Nancy Knies, Janice Okoniewski and husband, Dave, and Allan Knies Jr.; grandchildren, Allyson Kubs and husband, Wayne, and Anna Okoniewski; great-grandchildren, Julia and Taylor; siblings, Herbert, Judi Knies and brother-in-law of Vinnie Ruta, Ruth Bednarek and Eleanor Finke. Predeceased by brothers and sisters, Leonard and his wife, Cathleen, Donald, Emily Ruta, Joan Romanchick, sister-in-law Frances Knies and brother-in-law Robert Finke.
