He's turning 47 this Friday.
Bankoff graduated from Emory University with a bachelor's in international studies and got an MBA from the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He has an expansive history in online media. While an executive VP with AOL, he helped develop some of its signature products, including MapQuest and Instant Messenger. He also helped develop well-known websites like TMZ.
Bankoff joined Vox in 2009 -- though it was known, then, as SportsBlogs. Vox Media now has a wide online presence, claiming 800 million views monthly, with 170 million unique visitors a month.
The company has grown to eight web brands, covering news, tech, sports, shopping, householding, gaming and the more nebulous "influence." Respectively, those brands are Vox, The Verge, SB Nation, Eater, Racked, Curbed, Polygon and Recode.
Eater was recently noted by the Daily Voice, when its restaurant editor named a restaurant in the region -- Pocantico Hills' Blue Hill at Stone Barns -- the best restaurant in the nation.
