Bettman has been NHL commissioner since 1993. Prior to that, he was a senior VP and general counsel of the National Basketball Association.
His NHL career has been multifaceted. League revenues have increased dramatically, and six new teams have been added to the league in that span. But he's also been controversial, both for expanding the NHL into non-traditional markets -- further south -- and for the three player lockouts under his watch.
