ALLENDALE, N.J. -- Listening to rap artist Lily Massie (LG) sing belies her appearance. The pretty, girl next door, with braces and long blonde hair, looks like a suburban teenager — until she raps.

On one of her tracks on SoundCloud, you can hear the 15-year-old flaunt her vocal muscles with her smooth-sounding melodies and expressive rhymes.

"This is such a short song because its meant to be like an introduction to myself and my music," she writes as an introduction to her "Sometimes" track.

The Allendale teen performed live Friday in Connecticut and is scheduled to open a show Saturday at Webster Hall in the East Village.

Massie is entering her sophomore at Northern Highlands Regional High School. She began writing lyrics at 11, and had vocal training with Cathy Thortan — the teacher "was a backup singer for (Jennifer Lopez), said Massie in a Daily Voice interview.

Inspirations include rapper Eminem and Ariana Grande, two "amazingly talented people," Massie said "are confident in what they do."The teen markets her singing online and has gotten gigs, including Saturday's concern, through networking, she said.

"I trademark my talent through social media, performances opening for somewhat big artists," she said.

At Saturday's show, Massie will open for rappers Ben Mader and Matt Hill . "Ben and I share the same manager so I sorta got the gig through that," she said. She also opened Friday for Hill in Connecticut.

While Massie has played clubs and small venues, she did go up on stage during an Ariana Grande concert at Madison Square Garden.

"During her meet-and-greet, they decided to call two fans on stage to have a rap battle with each other while Ariana sang and I got chosen," she said. "So I got on stage next to my idol (Ariana Grande) and I rap battled this girl and I won. I remember after I was in the bathroom and two young girls came up to me and said, 'You are an amazing rapper,' and they asked me if I could follow them on Twitter. I thought it was really cool."
