The chief dietitian at the Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff, Joan Katz, R.D., will present "Anti-Inflammatory Foods for Your Health" from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Northwest Senior Activity Center.
Many major diseases — including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression, and Alzheimer's — have been linked to chronic inflammation, according to Harvard Health. Nutrition is one of the most powerful tools to combat inflammation.
Anti-inflammatory foods include tomatoes; olive oil; green leafy vegetables like spinach, kale and collards; nuts like almonds and walnuts; fatty fish like salmon, mackerel, tuna and sardines; and fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, cherries and oranges.
Studies have also associated nuts with reduced markers of inflammation and a lower risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Coffee, which contains polyphenols and other anti-inflammatory compounds, may protect against inflammation as well.
