“All the associates in our Waldwick store will have the opportunity to be transferred to other Stop & Shop locations,” said Jim Keenoy, director of marketing and external communications.
There are three other Stop & Shop stores in the area in Ridgewood, Paramus and Wyckoff.
Contrary to rumors circulating on Facebook, however, Trader Joe’s has no plans to take over the space.
According to a Trader Joe’s spokesperson, the only new store it will open in New Jersey soon is in Hoboken.
The decision to close the Waldwick Stop & Shop was made after a review of the store’s performance and volume, said Keenoy.
He added that the Waldwick location is one of the supermarket chain’s older stores.
It dates to 2001 when Stop & Shop acquired it after Grand Union went bankrupt in 2001.
