ALLENDALE, N.J. – Allendale Eats will celebrate its seven-year anniversary Friday by serving up its Annual Complimentary Customer Appreciation Breakfast Buffet.
“It’s for everyone who walks in,” said Denise Kimball, a Glen Rock native and Haskell resident who owns the popular eatery with her son, Kyle Cauwenberghs.
Since it opened its doors, Allendale Eats has been a second home to hundreds of hungry diners, many of whom can’t imagine their day without it.
Jim Smith, who works down the street, has made his way to lunch counter for several years.
“I need to get out of the office,” he said. “So here I get to sit at a counter with lots of other people. They have different specials every day so I never get bored with the food.”
Now, he added, he’s friends with everybody there.
Since it opened, Allendale Eats has enjoyed moments of fun -- and even celebrity. It’s racked up some culinary victories, to boot.
“It’s been wonderful!” Kimball said. “We just keep working and working, all the time. We keep getting better and bigger and it’s a good thing.”
A highlight was when Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock pulled up in 2013 in a 1969 Lamborghini Miura P400S to record a segment of Seinfeld’s Internet series, “Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee.”
“We got business from that,” Kimball said. “There are still people who come here and say they want to sit where Jerry sat.”
Another show, “Small Town Flavor,” is interested in producing an entire episode on the staff.
“We have a good time here,” she said. “Our customers are like our family. They come in and say it feels like home.”
Recently, the eatery won Best Breakfast in New Jersey from www.OnlyInYourState.com . New Jersey Monthly Magazine also named Allendale Eats twice for Best Soups, Salads, and Sandwiches in North Jersey.
“We came up as a runner-up for best breakfast in (201) Magazine four times!” Kimball said, laughing. “We keep losing to the Country Pancake House in Ridgewood. We’ve got to knock them out.”
